Spring Sheering 2023

Once a year between March to May, we shear the alpacas and llamas to have their wool processed for yarn, and felt. We are always looking for people to help corral the animals and bag the fleece. If you are interested in volunteer and just want to watch and learn, contact us for more information.

The alpacas are laid in a prone position with their feet lassoed. This help keep them safe and still for the shearing.

Once the blanket has been removed, Second and third cuts are made. This fleece is used for rug fiber, felt, and stuffing.

All the fleece is individually bagged and packaged accord to the alpaca. This is now ready to be sent to the spinners for yarn production.
